Allergic Reactions to Anaesthetics: Clinical and Basic Aspects (Monographs in Allergy) Review
This interdisciplinary volume covers a wide spectrum of topics associated with the largely life-threatening reactions which may occur during general anaesthesia. Focus is placed on anaphylactic/anaphylactoid reactions and anaesthesia-related liver disease. Leading international authorities discuss the epidemiology, clinical aspects and therapy of these reactions as well as their possible prevention by new screening tests. Special attention is given to the immunological mechanisms which underlie allergic reactions and the possible contribution of nonimmune mechanisms. Both the clinical and the experimentally-based findings are analyzed with the aim of establishing links between them. In addition, the book addresses important issues in treatment, covers areas which are ill-defined or not generally known, and tackles controversial questions including discussion of medico-legal and economic issues.
